Noah Griffin and The Cole Porter Society’s annual fundraiser presents, Kiss Me Kate. An updated version of Shakespeare’s “The Taming of the Shrew” tells of a company of traveling actors putting on the show, where backstage drama begins to creep in on the action.
Featuring two feuding couples, a few gun-toting gangsters and some of the best numbers ever written: “Another Op’nin,’ Another Show,” “Too Darn Hot,” “Wunderbar,” “So In Love,” and “Brush Up Your Shakespeare,” this concert version promises a Kiss Me Kate to please and delight a discerning audience of Cole Porter fans and an introduction to those not familiar with the great composer’s work.
The show was the first to win the Tony award for Best Musical in 1949 and has gone on to countless revivals all over the world, winning a Tony again in 1999 for Best Revival of a Musical.
This show is dedicated to the first Kate, Patricia Morison, who at 101 years old was presented with The Cole Porter Society Lifetime Achievement Award in a ceremony on her birthday in March.
Ticket proceeds fund programs that promote musical literacy of our young people through programs featuring Cole Porter and The Great American Songbook."
For San Francisco Chronicle members only, we are offering exclusive, discounted seats for $60 in the Orchestra, originally $95! Please bring your photo ID to will-call to pick up your tickets.
